Cliff and Holly Fullingim.
My wife and I are currently in our 50’s in
Life. I am in my late 50’s and my wife is in her early
50’s. We found ourselves with more weight than we ever wanted
to have, our clothes were always getting too tight or too small. We kidded each other as to
how these clothes must have shrunk in the laundry, because the last time I wore this outfit or jeans they seem to
fit better. It wasn’t our lack of skills doing the laundry because we have had many years
experience doing this household chore. The truth is we needed to
lose weight.
We never wanted to buy diet pills, or go to a structured diet losing center, or
exercise. We have purchased products to help you tone up by watching one of those
infomercials. I am not trying to discredit any of those apparatus or anything like
that. The truth is when we get home at night from working at the business, we were just too
tired, and didn’t feel like devoting any more of our precious time off doing these exercises, or
exercising.
We had to take a serious look at ourselves, our routine and come up with a sort of explanation as to
why we were gaining weight. We concluded that it was the food and the amount of
food we were eating that was causing us to gain weight.
I also have a serious medical condition of very poor circulation in my right leg, DVT the DR’s have
diagnosed it being. This was caused by a farming accident when I was
16, so the extra weight through the years wasn’t helping that situation
either. This alone should be enough reason to lose weight.
We had our requirements about losing weight, mainly we didn’t want to have to exercise , exercise, and
exercise, you get the picture. We also wanted to eat food that tasted
good. We went thru having to eat our children’s cooking when they were learning
how to cook (sometimes not very tasty). And we are also going thru sampling our lovely grand
children’s cooking, (yes it is wonderful, just ask any grandparent about their grand children).
We love them to death, but also love to take them out to eat.
My wife runs a business and is very tired and exhausted when she gets home at night, after a very tiring
day. If anyone has ever run their own business then you know how physically draining and
exhausting it can be. Most days she goes to her business with one set of agenda or plans for the
day, and things change rapidly, so by the end of the day she is physically and mentally
exhausted.
We do not have any children at home, so we do not have to be on any set schedule except when we have the pleasure
of one of our grandchildren, visiting or spending the night. Well you get the
picture.
We had to almost examine every aspect of our eating habits, to determine or, come to some sort of
educated decision as to why we were gaining weight and
how we got to where we were at as far as the weight goes. We also wanted to use the resources, or skills we
had in food preparation to lose weight. One of our requirements was that we
didn’t want to purchase a pre-prepared weight loss
program. So we needed to prepare our own food.
We ask our closes friends and family what they did about examining their eating habits..Most said
nothing, they couldn’t lose weight, they tried different things is just don’t
work. Some said they had a medical problem, and couldn’t lose weight. Some
said these are love
handles!!
I secretly thought they didn’t need
big handles on their little tricycle, but I kept that to my-self!
Some said Itried
to diet, but my husband wouldn’t help me and wanted me to fix a full course dinner including a big
desert, every day. I lost my will power to stay on a diet.
We ask them why are we so overweight then?? Most came to the same conclusion as l listed
below:
1We eat too
much, we
consume to much volume of food, every time we go to a restaurant, the portions are super big and we over eat, and
feel miserable. We take a doggie bag home, and somehow it doesn’t taste good or look very appetizing
the next day. I really love to cook and love to have people enjoy my cooking, so we over
eat what I prepared a lot of.
2We eat the wrong kind
of foods, giving the reasons: By the time I get home after a long day at the office or
working, I just don’t feel like preparing a full meal or any meal , so we eat either fast food, picking up on way
home, eating frozen fast foods, ( pizzas, T.V. Dinners, heat and serve frozen dishes of any kind, or eat what is
left , example the cookies, cakes, At this point I am just to hungry, as we have heard many
times I am so hungry I could eat a horse., because I didn’t take the time today to have
lunch, So I know we don’t eat the Healthy foods in the right proportions like we
should.
3After dinner or supper, whichever way you want to call it, all we
want to do is relax and watch TV, most of the times we eat while watching our Television, and during the
commercials, we can go get another filling of deserts, popcorn, ice cream, pies, cakes or anything else we
want, after all I work hard, so I should be able to eat anything or as much as I want
4One excuse was I have to
prepare a lot of food, because the food does not taste
as good as when I try to prepare just the right proportions that we will eat, so we eat more, because it is there
and it seems like there it will just go to waste if we don’t eat it.
5One other comment was I just
love the junk food, so that is what I like and I am not going to change.
I am sure you probably have more to add to the list, and we could go on and on, with more excuses or comments or
opinions as to why we gained the weight, that now we don’t want any more.
First things first, I want to really lose this extra weight that I have
been carrying around with me for a lot of years now, in fact for us personally it has been 21 years that we have
seem to have the extra weight attached to my body. I know I am not extremely obese, but from 21
years ago until I reached my maximum weight of 227 ponds, I have gained 67
pounds. I was 160 pounds 21 years ago.
My grandson told me my pop belly
looked like I was going to have a baby,
He was serious, and was not trying to
be funny. I took that comment to heart and serious.
My wife weighed 89 pounds 21 years ago , extremely little and petite, she
reached her maximum weight of 165, and is apparent that to go from a size 1 petite to a size
12, represents a lot of clothes buying through the years. I might add here that I have
never once complained as to the amount of clothes she bought or the price she paid. But she
wasn’t happy with her weight either.
